A guide to Freeview digital terrestrial services

Freeview is digital TV and radio through your terrestrial aerial.

A one off payment for a set-top box or other receiving equipment, allows you to access over 50 TV and radio channels without paying any subscription charges or signing any contracts.

Continue to watch BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Five programmes – but with quality digital pictures and sound, and access their 'digital only' channels - which include pre-screenings of entertainment programmes, movie premieres, extended and 24 hour news, live sports coverage, and indepth documentaries.

Plus watch the many other 24 hour thematic channels, including more general enterainment and factual programming, plus music videos, and home shopping.

Enjoy radio stations from the BBC, including additional digital services, such as 6 Music, Radio 7, 5 Sport Extra and Asian Network. Plus many national commercial stations, offering non-stop music, sports coverage and talk shows.

Freeview equipment comes with an Electronic Programme Guide (EPG), allowing you to view programme listings for up to 8 days in advance at the touch of a button.

On most boxes you will be able to access extended interactive content, often promoted as "Press Red" services.

New channels are being continually added to the Freeview platform, Freeview products allow you to perform an extended search to tune-in all new services within minutes.

A digital terrestrial set-top box will provide access to all Freeview's TV and radio channels, these start from just £49.00. There are also PVR set-top boxes available, allowing you to additionally record programmes and pause live broadcasts.

Also available, is a range of products for Freeview reception on your PC, as well as portable monitors, and TVs with integrated Freeview tuners.

To check that you can receive Freeview in your area, you can perform a postcode check. You may need to buy additional or new aerial equipment if you don't already receive a good terrestrial signal.
