G

Gain
Unit of measure, expressed in decibels, reflecting the amplification potential of a parabolic antenna or of an amplifier. Gain is the opposite of damping. The gain of a parabolic antenna is dependent on its diameter as well as on its efficiency.

Geostationary
A body that rotates above the equator at the same speed as the earth is said to be geostationary. A viewer on earth perceives the body to be standing still.

GHz
Gigahertz, or one billion oscillations per second.

G/T Ratio
The G/T (gain/temperature) ratio expresses the ratio of the noise ratio in the converter. The G/T ratio of an antenna is also known as its quality factor, and is often used to describe the dish diameter as well as its quality.
