Satellite
Any object orbiting the earth is referred to as a satellite.

Satellite receiver
Unit of equipment that is connected to the antenna, and is capable of transforming an incoming signal into a signal that can be displayed by the TV set.

Scart connector
Plug connection fitted to video recorders, TV sets and satellite receivers in order to carry video and audio signals.

SECAM
Abbreviation for Sequence Couleur a Memoire. Television system, developed in France and used primarily in France (SECAM West) as well as in the Eastern European countries (SECAM East).

Semi-transponder
A method of reducing the output level as well as the deviation of each TV signal in order to transmit two TV signals by means of a single transponder.

Service ID
Unique description for a service within a transport stream.

Service information
Digital data used to describe the distribution system, the content and the time schedule of a stream of broadcast data. This information includes MPEG-2 PSI as well as several independently developed extensions.

Signal
General description for data, for information, for a sound or picture image that is electrically altered in order to be transmitted over a distance, or in order to connect several pieces of equipment with each other.

Spot
Reception zone or footprint of a satellite that is restricted to a small area of the earth's surface.
